officially sick: i got my cold, but that ain't stopping me. finally finished my first week of winter school. exhausting, but i'm making extra dough so it is somewhat comforting. and i have some really cute students so it makes the classes bearable. i'll have to take a pic of this one kid, tom...i just wanna squish his face!! :) i think God is helping me out lil by lil. for example: 1) yesterday was movie day at our school for the winter classes (10am-1:30pm). that's 4 classes. thursday we see the schedule to see who gets to watch movies and when. turns out i'm the only one who's classes got to watch movies all morning! whoo hoo~! even my boss wrote, "lucky joyce!" on the board. yes, i was thankful. 2) i only have 1 class on saturdays. everybody else has atleast 2. even tho it kinda sux to go all the way there for 1 40-min class, i don't mind. it's one of my favorite classes anyway. so julie finally got her new car. lucky duck. i think i'll have forgotten how to drive when i get back. geez, it's been so long since i've been behind the wheel. it feels weird!! gonna watch "last samurai" tomorrow. it started yesterday. not really expecting it to be REALLY good, but tom cruise is in it so it makes it all worthwhile. i've learned to play dominoes which is really fun! it's pretty addicting. after the morning winter classes are over, me and some of the other teachers sit and play for about an hour or so before our afternoon classes. i haven't won a round yet (i'm still a newbie), but u gotta on your toes calculating and playing defense. definitely a future "hanuri EM" activity. saw lee byung hun's younger sister, who is a former miss korea, last night in apkujung. she's really tall and kinda pretty, but not "head-turning" beautiful. none of the korean-americans/canadians males we were with saw her. beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. alright, time to take a shower and get ready for my ONE class! yay! "she'll be rollin' down the mountain when she comes...": that's how the song would go if somebody saw me snowboarding for the first time... so i FINALLY went on my first snowboarding/ski trip. i chose to go snowboarding instead of skiing b/c 1) it seemed like i wouldn't break bones as much and 2) if i am able to do snowboarding (which some people consider harder than skiing) then skiing will be easier for me later. so this is how it all went down...well, me... we (5 other teachers from my school) meet up at lotte world to take the 6:50AM bus. we get on the bus only to find out that the travel package place signed us up for the WRONG ski resort. my friend was mad, but we just decided to make the most of it. then we found out that they also signed up all of us to get skis, but only 2 of us were skiing. so they had to change all that for us, but we were still all in a great mood so it really didn't bother us since we got everything we needed. on the first run, all 6 of us went to the main beginner course. 2 of us were first time snowboarders so the other 2 teachers tried to teach us. somehow it didn't click in me on what to do so i was ROLLING down the hill. i was falling flat on my face. flat on my back. in gumby-like positions. i could feel every pain in my body. the other 'beginner' teacher seemed to "get it" so he didn't fall down AS much. i wasn't leaning back and pointing my toes up far enough as i should have. stupid me. so after my first run, me and another teacher decided to sit down and have drinks (non-alcoholic, of course). we talked until lunch. then we all ate lunch. i wanted to go sledding instead (i nearly gave up), but the others kept pushing me to try again. so i did. when i went down the 2nd time, i finally "got it". i fell down maybe 7 times. so i did went up once more. the 3rd time i fell down maybe 2 or 3 times. i would have gone more, but i was freakin' too sore to do that. but it was fun once i got control of myself. i'm supposed to go skiing in a few weeks (after i get back from japan) so i guess i'll be in some pain once again. but it was so awesome to see so much snow!! :D the weather was PERFECT. not even cold! i was stupid and touched the snow with my bare hands and could feel it sticking to my skin. ouch! but i was so hot coming down the mountain that i had to unzip my jacket. and i didn't get sunburned! and the lifts were great fun. nice scenery. hehe. then the next day i had to go to work early in the morning for the "special winter session" at my school. for those over-ambitious mothers and students, they come at 10 FREAKIN' AM in the morning to learn MORE english. then come again in the AFTERNOON for their regular classes. what are these people on?!?! well, atleast i get some overtime pay, but not too much. so i've been really tired these past days. starting to get a sore throat, but hopefully i can fight it off. my cousin bought a new laptop and it's sooo pretty. she didn't have a burner before, but now she gots a loaded computer. i can't wait to use it! hehe. well, gotta take a hot bath (i'm still sore from the trip) and sleep early. gotta rise and shine early to teach them crazy kids phonics. ugh.
