man, it's been a while...: seems like forever since i've written, huh? :) lots of random things that have been going on: 1. i ate dinner w/ 3 of the korean teachers from my school this past wednesday night. i had a blast. not sure if YOU would think so, but eating and talking is my kind of entertainment. :) we spent about 3 hours talking about our school, the teachers, korean parents (who are extremely difficult to work with), difference btwn speaking in english & korean, and just about ourselves. even tho they are older than me (30 and above), i felt right at home. they also were very impressed with my korean. they said if they could speak english as well as i spoke (and understand) korean, they'd go to america to teach. haha. but yeah, sometimes i am surprised with myself of how much korean i understand. dang i sound like i'm bragging, huh? but seriously, when i was training with english channel, it was entirely in korean, but the staff there was impressed with me. ok enough bragging. 2. one of korea's most famous baseball players, lee seung yup, hit his 56th homer yesterday. not that wonderful to me, but what was hilarious was the people in the stands. b/c of the price tag of the ball (estimated at around $200,000), people brought fishing nets to the ballgame to catch it. it was hilarious watching it on the news. hundreds of people brought these huge fishing nets and were practicing before the game on how to catch a ball with it. korean people can be so funny. 3. today was a national holiday in korea. independence day. what did we (me & my cousin's family) do to celebrate? we sat and watched tv ALL day of course! oh except for the part when we went to mcdrive (hehe) for dinner. yay for holidays! 4. as u all know i've been cross-stitching these days. the teachers i ate dinner with asked me what do i do in my free time and i told them i did that, they all thought i was hilarious. i guess it is. plus it's something like majorly girly and i'm not one of those kinds of girls. i even watched the asian championship bball game btwn korea & china doing cross-stitching. it's taking longer than i thought, but i'm having fun with it. after i get back from japan, i'll upload the pics from my trip and from the cross-stitching i've done thus far. 5. i haven't done laundry the whole time i've been in korea. "WHAT?!?!", you're thinking, i know. hehe. that's b/c both my relatives have ahjummahs (older korean women) come every week. in korea, rich families (yes i'll admit my relatives are rich) have these ahjummahs come to cook and clean. i'm afraid that i'll be very spoiled when i get back home. of course i help around the house when the ahjummah doesn't come, but the day she does, i'm not allowed to do anything. very nice, huh? 6. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that's freakin' awesome!!!! cuban's a genius (or whoever thought of it, but cuban is the one who makes the final decisions, of course)! dang, i wish i could do that. *SIGH* 7. i watched "the fugitive" today. i think i've watched it about 10x now. and i still love it. it still gives me thrills. i love tommy lee jones' character. hilarious. ford: i didn't kill my wife! jones: i don't care! hehe. i guess that's it for now. i'm still at the same weight i have been for about a month now. it's easy to lose that first few pounds, but after that u actually gotta work for it. ann told me it was about $30 (w/ her corporate discount) per month at bally's, but man, it's freakin' $90+ a month here. i'll have to think about joining a gym for a while. in the meantime, i'll be cross-stitching. hehe. another crick in the neck: what's up with me getting neck pains? freak! man i've had some WEIRD dreams the past couple of days. i don't remember the night before last night's dreams, but last night's are pretty clear to me right now... first dream was about how i was supposed to fill in for somebody for a small part in a play. sean & joo were also in the play. i was due on stage in 5 minutes, but i dropped by to say hi to sean & joo & somebody else, but i forgot who. anyways, that person that i forgot was going over his lines so i was helping him with them. sean & joo were just talking. so then i TOTALLY forgot about my part and so did sean & joo. we all missed out on the play. but it wasn't the first time for me to forgot my part. the director of the play turned out to be my friend, sandy, and i felt like i totally let her down. she was disappointed, but wasn't too mad. weird dream, huh? second dream. (yes i had more than 1...i had 3!) our english ministry group at Church was getting ready to play an orchestral piece. julie was the leader of the whole thing. for some reason all the violins were to sit down on the left wing of the Church on a separate stage with their backs facing the audience. i have no idea why. and julie was to sit and play cello with them in that area. the rest of the orchestra/band were to sit on the main stage facing the audience as usual. but since julie had her back facing the audience, she asked me to conduct the other group. but i can't conduct worth crap. then i see the piece is mixed in 3/4 and 4/4 (if u know ur music, u know how hard that is). but i try it anyway. then charlie says, "joyce, you're doing a good job!" he made me feel so much better. then in one part of the piece, somebody is supposed to yell out something. i thought that hyunho should do it. my dad was sweeping the floor of the auditorium so i told him that hyunho was going to yell out the part. my dad agreed, but decided to go talk to him. and that was the end of that. WHAT DO THESE DREAMS MEAN? man, the night before last night, i had a dream where i was cracking up so hard from something julie either said or did and i woke up laughing. i'm such a dork. last night was my first lesson with my new private tutoring student, chris. he was already one of my students at my school and now i'm doing private lessons with him. it's only an hour, but yesterday time went by so slowly. maybe b/c we didn't have anything to do really so i was asking him all these questions. today i'm going to go to the bookstore to get him some books, but dang, i hope that yesterday's lesson won't be like the rest. he's very quiet and shy so it will take some time to open up. anyways, he has a cute, 3-yr old baby sister who i will take a picture of in the future once i'm more acquainted with their family. haha. i haven't cross-stitched in 2 days. why? the day after i went on my CS binge, my eyes hurt all day. then yesterday i had the crick in my neck (which i still have now) so i decided not to. i probably won't do it today, but do it tomorrow. friday is a national holiday so i'll get plenty of time to do it then. i usually don't like korean dramas set in the old times back when korea had kings, but the drama called "deh jang geum" is good. it's true story about a poor girl who become one of the greatest royal cooks.
this lil girl is soooo freakin' good and cute as the lead. people are raving about this girl saying how much better she will be than lee young ae, the star of the drama. but yeah, i watch b/c of this girl and the yummy food that comes out. hehe. and if you're into watching dramas, you HAVE to watch "sang doo yah, hak gyo gah jah". it's so freakin' hilarious. i didn't like bi before, but man he is so great at acting and looking better everytime. haha. okie that's my update for now. not much of an update i know. going to osaka this tuesday. will be kinda scary, but exciting! patience or crazy?: i've started a new project... CROSS-STITCHING!! i'll upload photos later, but yeah, i bought some cross-stitching materials on saturday. and yesterday i spent from 10am-12am (not 2 hrs) unraveling the string and started on it. my aunt and cousin said i was very good for a beginner. ;) lots of korean girls do cross-stitching here so i wanted to see what the fuss was about and see how easy (or hard) it was. unraveling the string was the hard part. for some reason, some of the strings got tangled up so badly so it took a while to undo those. one color in particular took about 5 hrs. yes i know me & my aunt are crazy. while my cousin kept saying, "just cut it", me & my aunt thought we could unravel it. so from 10am-1pm we sat there unraveling string. in the end, we ended up cutting it and my cousin was sighing heavily, but we were laughing so hard. anyways, cross-stitching isn't that hard and i can't wait to finish my first one!! things have been so great these days. i really feel like i'm living in korea if that makes sense. this morning i woke up cuz i thought i heard my mom, but it was my aunt talking on the phone. haha. on saturday me & my cousin had so much fun in apkujung. first we went to buy the cross-stitching supplies. then we were hungry so we went to eat pretzels (the soft kind). they're relatively new here and now my cousin is crazy about them. then we walked around and saw a new ice cream shop. so we ate there. then we walked around some more. then we saw a place called "new york fries". and of course we went in there and ate. yes we were crazy, but it was so fun. :) okie time for me to get ready for school!
