year of the sheep: yeah, i know i posted something about this yesterday, but i found this about sheep (zodiac sign) and thought it was interesting... Farewell to the wild Horse, hello gentle Sheep, by Shin June-bong Here's a pop quiz to start the Year of the Sheep: What happens when you combine the Chinese characters for "sheep" and "big"? Answer: You get a character denoting beauty. Sheep in Asian cultures suggest beauty, virtue and righteousness. Combine the character for sheep with another, the ideogram for "self," and you have a character standing for righteousness or goodness. The character for sheep is used to form ideograms with invariably good meanings, says Cheon Jin-gi at the National Folk Museum of Korea. Tellingly, the museum named its exhibition featuring the symbolism of sheep "The Guardian of Peace and Hope, Sheep." Koreans have historically shunned the idea of having daughters born in the Year of the Horse, which precedes the Year of the Sheep. They believed that baby girls born in the Year of the Horse would take after the animal, and turn out wild and roguish. By contrast, the Year of the Sheep was the best year for a woman to bear a daughter -- if she wanted to escape the fault-finding of her mother-in-law. The first baby to be born on the peninsula in 2003 was a girl -- though by the lunar calendar, it's still the Year of the Horse. In traditional Korean culture, sheep are benevolent. Interpreters of dreams say that when you see a sheep in your dreams it bodes well -- a sheep can stand for a virtuous man, a religious man, a teacher, truth, or fortune. Seeing a goat being sacrificed in your dreams betokens enlightenment or accomplishment. Seeing somebody milking a sheep portends success in business. Hauling a sheep and tying it inside your house means you will meet a benevolent person or find good fortune. Eating mutton or goat means you'll devote yourself to studies. Drinking sheep's milk means you'll find your mentor. People born in the Year of the Sheep tend to become teachers, professors and artists. Being rather unambitious and unsociable, Sheep care little for business or politics. Whom should the Sheep find as a partner? According to the marital compatibility readings of the zodiac, Sheep should avoid Rats. Sheep get along best with Rabbits and Pigs. thought it somewhat accurate. tendency to teaching and unambitious is correct. unsociable, sometimes, but aren't we all? i have this dilemma. i could have a job with the mavericks. but it's not one of those jobs you jump out and get. it's long hours, but the perks are nice. do i take it or leave it? gosh, i need some advice! do i stay here or leave? i know what my parents would say. ARE YOU CRAZY??? i'm soooooooo glad today is friday. this has been THE longest week. finally. the weekend. lots of stuff to do tomorrow. i wanted to take ann out to sam moon (o_O) but unfortunately, i gotta get my car fixed and will be unable to do so. then gotta catch the mavs/76ers game @ 12:30, then ice-skating @ 8. whew!! ann, we'll go next time, i promise!!! i'm hungry and i don't know where to eat. my mom would say that that means i'm not hungry, but i really can't decide. i'm getting grossed out my fast food a little bit. this is sad. i must be clogged to the bones with cholesterol yet i can't stop myself. gosh! ok, that was disgusting. it left a bad taste in my mouf. btw, i ordered the "drumline" soundtrack. can't wait to get it!! and i bought 4 tix to the 2/27 mavs/kings game for me, julie, and the wons. yay!! :D (^.^)v Squirted 12:41 PM by E-J YiThursday, January 02, 2003
birds, longhorns, and tigers, oh my!: weird topic, i know. birds: where i park my car @ work, there's a lot of bushes & trees. it's very nice b/c it blocks out the sun while i eat lunch. however, tuesday & today was interrupted by a stupid cardinal. no, not a religious one, but the feathered-kind. it scared the CRAP out of me when it landed right infront of my left side-mirror and i had to beat the window to get it away. about 30 minutes later, it was there again. so i ever to slightly opened the door to scare it and quickly closed my door. and it landed about a foot from the car. and it just stood there looking at me. so i opened the door & closed it again. jumped about a feet. i opened & closed it again. jumped about another feet. then went on several times until i finally got it out of sight. but it was like challenging me. like it would stay there until i opened my door. i hate birds. they're only good for 1 thing: eating. that's IT. today it visited me again during lunch. i wanted to smack it down. but i finally realized why it kept coming to me. it thought the cardinal in the mirror was another bird! yes, folks, i'm getting old and didn't realize it until today. next time, i'm just going to bring my mirror in or something. geez! i didn't go into much detail as i would have like about the UT/LSU game: (if you don't want to read, skip this amazingly long paragraph.) ann came over about 8am (yes, we're crazy) and we headed over to fair park. there was some traffic already building, but not enough to cause any trouble whatsoever. i didn't feel like looking around for parking so we went to the first parking lot (next to the mcdonald's) which i thought was relatively "close" to the stadium. (close=could see the stadium from where i parked) we paid a hefty $10 (*wink wink*, ann) and started to walk. DANG, it was COLD, but the sky was blue & clear. we had to walk a lil, but it didn't seem so far b/c of the excitement. there would be teenage LSU guys with painted bodies already cheering as we walked. there was a big tailgate party for UT fans set up on a grassy knoll. we got to the gates, ann (with her clever water trick) & i passed through quickly, and we headed straight for our seats. which were pretty good. lower section, 2 seats from the end, and right below the upper deck. i didn't know the seats were so small and COLD. not good for girls at all. when i looked at the scoreboard we had 77 minutes left until the game. i thought, what would we do for the next hour?. i was kinda hungry, but it was quickly forgotten b/c the football teams getting on the field for warm-ups and a pre-game show filled with high school marching bands (from across the us?), cheerleaders (from across texas), and some drill team. boring & time-consuming. finally the game got started. it was exciting to see how both sides cheered for their respective teams as their ran onto the field. the LSU fans were pretty loud. we were actually sitting behind and infront of some LSU fans and they were pretty loud, too. the UT marching band were sitting about 2 sections to the left of us & the UT cheerleaders were about 1 section to the right of us. we were right on the 13 yd line on the texas side. the first half went pretty quickly. lots of scoring and excitement. i did lots of screaming (my throat hurt the rest of the day) and UT signs. me & ann yelled our heads off for chris simms and laughed at the jokes made about LSU from other UT fans. "yay for the tigers & zebras!" "go tony the tiger! you're grrrrrrreat!" "atleast we're not married to our cousins!" "what da heck are they saying? are they speaking english?" the half time show started out with LSU's band (which was huge) performing songs from the 007 series. then UT performed some salsa/spanish songs which was actually pretty boring. then those high-schoolers, cheerleaders, and drill teamers came on again and did something. i forget. that's how interesting it was. me & ann didn't even get up once during the entire game. i dunno if we didn't feel like missing or thing or lazy. haha. =) half time quickly ended and it was time again for the fun. during the game, i was amazed to see how easy it was to find open players and pathways. on tv, it seemed difficult to get through the opponent's defense or to see an open player, but i guess that's b/c it was the nfl. i'm assuming it wouldn't be that open during those games. i hope to go to a nfl game before i die. i guess during half time, the teams figured out how to stop each other's offense, but it was mostly the defensive players that were getting alot of field time. the 3rd quarter was when the game was over. and the rest of the game was spent just cheering on the team which a huge grin on our face. and the sun actually came in our direction and warmed us up enough to take off layers of clothing. chris simms' last throw was an interception, but it was ok b/c he won his last game as a senior. kinda sad about that, but oh well. after the game was over, all the UT people sang "the eyes of texas" and the trophy was presented. me & ann went down for a closer look @ simms. we even yelled, "WE LOVE YOU CHRIS!!" and had another man yell, "HEY CHRIS! THOSE GIRLS SAY THEY LOVE YOU!" but of course, chris didn't acknowledge us. we started to head back, but right infront of the stadium, some people were lining up to see the players off to the hotel. so me & ann decided to wait to see simms and perhaps get a picture, better yet, a picture WITH him. player after player came out, holding a box of campisi's pizza (yum!), and looking around to see if they had any family or friends around. it was kinda sad to see those players who just walked onto the bus b/c they had nobody to say hi to. they didn't get on b/c they didn't want to greet the fans, people would look in another direction if the player wasn't who they were waiting for. one player, about 6'6" (but not fat), came out and met his girlfriend. who's about my height. and he leaned over and kissed her. his body was bent to far over i thought he would fall. but it was SOOO cute. then he picked her up off the ground to give her a big hug before he left. i would love to have a bf like that. mmm...i take that back. not THAT tall, but it was cute. kinda like sarah jessica parker & that blonde guy from "my big fat greek wedding". ok anyway, we waited (i'm not kidding) about 2 hours and finally mack brown came out. i should have taken a pic of him. cuz simms comes out about 10 minutes later (i thought i had one exposure left and was saving it to take with chris), but then he just comes out, flashes the 'horns, i quickly took a pic, and he got into the tahoe and left. i was kinda disappointed he did that. a handful of people had been waiting as long as us and we all just had to walk away. i felt like he didn't appreciate his fans, but i know he had to get somewhere. wherever it is. oh well. it's ok. atleast i saw him. taller & better-looking in person. by this time, my feet were aching! me & ann got to my car (which was just 1 of 2 cars left) and headed home. i was exhausted, but happy. it was alot of fun and i'm glad that i got to experience a championship game. =) hi. i know some of you skipped that. haha. one last thing. i hope this isn't an omen for this year. at Church, after the service was over, lucy comes to me and says, "julie, i hope this year is good for you and you receive many blessings." um, thanks. thanks alot. *sigh* i really SHOULD change my name, rite? =\ Squirted 2:54 PM by E-J Yibah bah (black) sheep!: thought this was interesting. a korean entertainment article had written about all those entertainers born in 79 and how they were going to succeed this year. i'm not superstitious, but i hope that this year turns out to be a good one. i have made a couple of resolutions: *be a more patient person *pray more *think more positively *open my ears and not my mouth *lose 10 lbs yeah, i know alot of people do the lose-weight thing, but i really want to. and you know, when i do, i do. like i didn't drink soft drinks for a year. why couldn't i lose a few pounds? i hope that people will keep me accountable on these things, but not when you're mad at me. thanks! TEXAS~FIGHT!: oh MAN what a great game! me & ann had a BLAST! :D our seats weren't that bad except we were surrounded by lsu fans. i guess they couldn't find seats on the lsu side. they're weird too. they did this bowing thing that was really creepy. O_O i got to learn some UT cheers which was fun (their fight song is the same tune as plano's) and held up the 'horns sign with pride. yes, i KNOW that i was a mustang, i made myself think of it as the state of texas vs the state of lousiana. hehe. and it was so fun. i'll post up pics on a site or something later. also had dinner with eunice, dana, ann, and julie the night before which was fun. just talkin' & laughin'. i love how we can do that. jinhee once said that it was weird (but i *think* in a good way) that our class ('98) was so close. and i'm thankful that we are. after all these years... i found out from my cousin last night that i have been doing my makeup all wrong. geez. i hope she's right. so imma call her up this weekend to see what to do. man, it's hard being a girl! =P got a homeless outreach today. feeding hotdogs & chili. hope that they don't complain like last time. ("where's the ketchup? you got mustard?") i hope they appreciate the work that goes behind it. but yeah. i'm freakin' tired and this isn't going to help... but atleast we're giving them something warm in their bellies and not something that will impair their judgement. hope to have some fun tonight! "m-m-moo-moo dah ree!" lol. DANG, this day is going by SOOOOOOO slow. =O *yawn* my boss already left. i hope i'm leaving @ 3. then i gotta go to get my car fixed AGAIN. GEEZ. i am beginning to hate my camry. i liked it b/c it was reliable. dunno about that anymore. ok, i'm about to shoot myself in the foot for being so boring. c-ya. eyes of texas: i have to learn this song by wednesday. why? BECAUSE ME & ANN ARE GOING TO THE UT GAME!!! :D the cool thing about working here is that i can get cool things here. ok, that sounded mighty gay, but it's true. one co-worker helped me get mavs/kings tickets and now i'm getting ut/lsu bowl game! my FIRST COLLEGE football game!! i'm really excited b/c it's UT and oh yeah & chris simms is playing. and yeah, UT is gonna win, ok?? even though he's choked in other games, i have this gut feeling that UT's gonna win this year. and you know why? BECAUSE I'M GOING TO THE GAME. HAHAHAHA. jk, guys. the weekend went pretty good. hung out with the wons for the mavs game. they are just phenomenal. wonderfully good. i love the mavericks!! ;) got to hang out with david um & hyun jin on thursday. that was pretty nice. it was crazy crowded @ chili's though. and yes, i will shoot myself if david ever, ever comes early for anything. i ate so many chips that i don't know if i could eat them for a while. and it was fun to ride in david's car. sc430. and me & hyun jin put the convertible top down. it was hilarious b/c it's the middle of winter and we were driving around the parking lot. ok, i thought it was funny. =P i watched a korean movie yesterday called "oasis". it was disturbing at first, but then turned out nice. an ex-murderer (he accidently ran over a female pedestrian) finally gets out of jail and goes to visit the victim's family. her daugher, mentally disabled, was left behind by her family that moved away. isn't that sad? what's also sad is that her brother & his wife do check up on her, but then when it's time for the census-type people to come, they will bring her to their house, act like she's part of the family and then have her counted as part of their household so they can qualify for discounts. well, after the ex-con visits the mentally retarded girl's apartment, he is smitted with her. he's not exactly a bright person, either. and then one day he freakin' rapes her when he brings flowers to her. it was the most scariest thing i've seen. thing is, he did it b/c he liked her so much & didn't know what to do. i didn't know what to think of this movie by now. however, to my surprise, the guy really does love her. he shows it by helping her around the apartment with chores, he washes her hair, he takes her outside when nobody else does. she actually lives like a normal human being and for her, HE is her oasis. her escape from reality. i'm not going to give away the rest of the movie, but the actress won a best newcomer award @ the cannes film festival this past year. she was truly amazing. and you don't really have to understand korean to watch this movie. it was a touching movie and probably one i won't forget in a long time. and i also watched a GREAT old movie for the first time. DIE HARD. it's freakin' good!! i feel ashamed that i never watched this back when. it's hilarious and totally exciting. if YOU haven't seen it, i HIGHLY recommend it. it's a lil cheesy & 80's-ish, but one of the movies that will forever be a favorite. i'm off to do some surfing...surfin' USA!
