Yesterday morning show contest lesson -- doug bledsoe, 22:25:47 10/15/02 Tue

I know that since I'm a man and actually saying that while it may had been cruel what Kidd did to those 4 girls that called in begging to see Nick Carter, I thought the idea was comical. I didn't hear it on the radio since I was probably asleep since I work graveyard. What I believe that Kidd was trying to show is how desperate fans will get for a chance to meet one of their idols. No doubt the girls probably really laid it on thick which would've been comical to hear.

needless to say, i was incredibily disappointed yesterday. Nick didn't show b/c his dad's sick. man. i was bummed the whole day and i still am. ann even drove up from austin. i asked for tickets in return and they said no. but then traci (from Transportation) heard that they were talking about that. hmm. sux. hopefully he'll come back, but it looks mighty iffy to me.

i'm tired today. probably b/c i feel so blah. =\ i want to go home and rest like i did yesterday. the only thing that cheered me up was watching "ee nuh ah gah shi" where this one guy had diahrrea (spelling?). it was so hilarious!! he was running and then all of a sudden he stopped and got this gross look on his face, but it looked like he stained his pants. hahaha. yesterday me & julie went to watch "brown sugar" with taye diggs & queen latifah. good movie. it's a story about hip-hop music, friends, and love. watch it.

alright. time to get back to work. "help me"...

i'm famous!!!: some more mentions on kidd's site...this is from the message board...

ALICE: I so agree with you about the contest. Those two girls only said Joyce because she promised them $300.00. Like they are ever going to see that money. This was a bad idea as a contest. That is just cruel to make people choose one person to meet a celebrity. I personnaly hope they never do this kind of contest again!

This Morning's Contest to Meet Nick Carter -- Linda, 07:29:16 10/15/02 Tue
Kidd,
I am very angry with you over the "contest" to meet Nick Carter. It wasn't a "contest". Those 4 girls all believed they would have an equal chance to win. And they didn't. 3 people give up want they want without real effort to defend their position or none of them go. That's not a contest. You took the meet Nick Carter contest as an chance to teach a life lesson and do the "ultimate" selfless act. That was not realistic. Those types of selfless acts only happen in high pressure situations. Meeting Nick Carter doesn't compare to being on the plane that crashed in Pa., 9/11/01. You need to apoligize not to just Kellie, but to your entire audience. And those girls.

Nick Carter Contest -- Alice, 06:30:36 10/15/02 Tue
Today's contest was pretty stupid and too drawn out. I've been a faithful listner for years but really thought you should have handled the contest a little better. And the comments by the guys on the staff about girls not making decisions need to realize you are dealing with young girls who really want something really bad. I'm sure if Caroline was in the same position Kidd would have understood. When I got to work this morning I had received the following email that fit in well with the trash talk about women.

This morning's contest -- Cara, 06:27:32 10/15/02 Tue
I think the contest to meet Nick Carter was the cruelest thing Kidd could have done. I know he was trying to give a lesson in empathy but that was totally lost. Basically he got these girls hopes up that they were going to win a chance to see their idol and then forced them to give it away. And the difference between this game and the other games is there is luck or skill involved in the other ones. This game was just Kidd making these girls cry... for a painfully long time. Please don't do this game ever again. My heart hurts for all of them now.

wow...surprised by some (not all) of the reactions! i really didn't expect to win so i guess it wouldn't have "hurt" me so much. man, that first person...talkin about the $300...shoot. what do i do?? man...*squirms* aish.

got a mention in kidd's website:

He had one chance for a listener to come into the studio posing as an intern and meet Nick Carter tomorrow. The questions is, how do you give away such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity? The answer is, get four contestants on the phone and have them all agree on which one should get the prize. That's right... These four total strangers were supposed to put their heads together and decide which one of them should get to meet Nick Carter. The result was five minutes of four girls of varying ages crying "please me, please me, vote for me" while I laughed hysterically from atop my own personal mountain of guilty pleasure. When Kidd saw that that the girls weren't going to be able to decide on one of them to get the prize, he threatened to hang up on all of them and find four more contestants. "No, no, no," they cried in soft whines that sounded a lot like kittens mewling for milk. Kidd decided to give them one more chance and let them talk it out during a commercial break.

After the break, Kidd demonstrated how differently guys would handle a situation like this by having himself, Scott, Al, and Troy all kick ten dollars into a pool and decide who gets the collective forty. After each of them pleaded their case, it was decided that Troy could use the money the most and he was awarded the cash. Then they moved back to the topic at hand... The Nick Carter thing. After some more crying, mewling, and begging, the girls finally decided to give the prize to the one who promised to give all the others money. The one who promised the money and was awarded the prize was very happy. The other three were all crying. Literally.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that any bit that ends with at least three listeners crying is a successful one, no matter how bad it makes Kellie feel afterward. (She complained that it was unfair to put listeners through such an ordeal.)

It was never clear as to whether or not any money was actually going to change hands.

funny, isn't it?? one girl hung up, but i will find out the other 2 girls' addresses. hmmm. wonder if i do really have to pay them? =\

busy as a bee: lots of things happened this weekend...

1. Bible study: good, but sucked when we all realized that we only have about 6 weeks until Sam & Co. leave. SUX. =*(
2. TX/OU: watched the game at humperdink's with a bunch of UT (Basic) people. i found it awfully difficult to be so excited for the game, well, for obvious reasons, i didn't go to UT. anyhoo, felt sorry for chris. but man, never heard such a loud restaurant before.
3. State Fair: for the most part, fun. what wasn't the fun part? too big of a group. wasted some time here & there so only got to spend <2 hrs at the fair. but the rides were fun and the people. :) i rode the kamakazee (spelling?) while listening to DROWNING!! can't get much better than that! almost threw up tho. =( blech.
4. Church: brought my video camera (which has been stuck to my hand for the past few days) and recorded some great songs.
5. Tony Romas: dinner on sunday @ a tony romas with ALL YOU CAN EAT~! i had 14 bones man! but omg, their BREAD & garlic butter is AMAZING!! YUM~! :D

startling revelation!!: SAM, my pastor and self-proclaimed "hater" of singers (there IS a difference btwn singer & MUSICIAN...i.e. BSB, n'sync, britney the "alien" as he says), said that he had to admit that if he were in high school, he'd probably listen to the song DROWNING if he liked a girl or something~!!!! AHH!! it was a great moment for me & the bsb. lol. i'm joking, but i was so happy to hear that. and this is the same guy who sang DROWNING with me on karaoke at home and he did the harmonizing!! lol. he said that he listens to it 3x a day and so really no choice but to memorize the words. yay minyard's/carnival food chains!! :D

ok, that was really cheesy/lame for most of you, but mostly that was for ann. (i think we have a BSB fan slowly coming out of the closet....) lol!

supposed to rain this weekend. ah shucks! hope it doesn't damper (heehee) our spirits (teehee) !!

aite folks. lunch. (^_^)v
